“Here a Glimpse, There a Glory”

I came across this phrase, “here a glimpse, there a glory”, in a devotional I have been reading.  It got me thinking.

I want to be more like Christ and He promises me that He will be faithful to complete the good work He has begun in me.  There are times even now where I can see His hand in my life, changing me by His Spirit .…  “here a glimpse, there a glory.”

There are times when the Lord gives me a sense of His presence in difficulty, that He cares about me, that He will sustain me, that He loves me.  For a few moments, I am joyful, glad for this gift.  One day, I will be always aware, always glad, always joyful … “here a glimpse, there a glory.”

There have been certain sins that have plagued me over the course of my life, but now and again, the Lord will give me a victory, and if no victory, He has always offered me forgiveness in Christ.  But that victory feels so good, to have overcome something … I want more.  And I will have it, for a day is coming when sin will no longer be present in my life … “here a glimpse, there a glory.”

Last Christmas was special to me.  We had family and friends over for dinner and there was a lot of laughter, as well as a lot of food.  A feast.  Christians glad to be together.  I went to bed happy, content, having tasted of the feast that is to come, when we are gathered from east, west, north and south, to feast with Christ at His Table … “here a glimpse, there a glory.”

I have this friend and he is really evangelistic.  He is leading several Bible Studies, always pointing people to Jesus, seeing the community in which he lives changed by the light of the Gospel.  Even those who have not placed their faith in Christ cannot deny that the influence of this man, the influence of the message he has brought, has been positive.  Salt and light.  One day, we will see those we have shared the Gospel with and who have received it by faith praising God alongside the heavenly millions.  We will be in the presence of God together, the One who is Light, the One who seasons everything with grace.  Now we have stories of salvation, of the influence of the Gospel, of the Lord using His people to accomplish His purposes … “here a glimpse, there a glory.”

I want you to have a “glimpse” now, to see the ways in which the Lord is working in your life, in the lives of others, in His Church, in the world.  I want you to know that there is “a glory” to come, to know with certainty that the Lord is making all things new in Christ and that one day we will know Him more fully than we have ever known Him.  Paul says it like this: “So we do not lose heart.  Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.  For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison …”

“Here a glimpse, there a glory.”
